Why I don’t do Zoom calls as a social worker

As a social worker I don’t do any live appointments.

No Zoom appointments.

No phone calls.

Nada.

All of my services are done in an asynchronous, virtual format.

Why?

Because I hate having appointments!

I’m a major introvert and I do my best work when I can work when I feel most energized.

Having set appointment times and live calls drains my energy and my creativity.

So, I built a business that suits my personality and strengths instead of conforming to what anyone else is doing or the industry standards.

As a social worker, therapist, or helping professional you might be thinking “well this won’t work for me because I HAVE to do live calls to be a service provider.”

That just isn’t true!

I realized this was possible when I started working for a company providing iCBT- basically we were doing a form of therapy where everything was completed over email/messaging, and I had two days to respond to my clients.

And I LOVED IT.

So did my clients!

Especially the busy mom who could easily connect with me after she put her kids to bed.

Or the lawyer who would work through a module on his lunch break.

It made me realize that the industry is missing out on a whole bunch of clients who PREFER not meeting face to face, or who have a super busy schedule that doesn’t allow for dedicated appointments every week during business hours.

As service providers, we were never taught what’s possible when it comes to starting a business, and most of us have a pretty narrow view of what our options are. (ahem- private practice)

Or we have a picture in our head about what having a business should look like. What we should be doing or what we should be offering.

And it holds us back!

That’s why my mission is to empower service providers and help them think outside the box of what’s possible. I want to show you that there are no rules and that you can build a business that suits your personality, lifestyle, and passions.
